Edward Burtynsky On Site: Transformation AGO

Back to Calendar of Events, Current Exhibitions, Contemporary

The work of award-winning Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky is internationally acclaimed. For more than 25 years, Burtynsky has documented the connections between land, industry, technology and architecture. His approach to monumental construction sites – such as the AGO – reveals the beauty and complexity of the process by which urban structures develop.

Burtynsky’s powerful depictions of global, industrial landscapes are part of the collections of more than 50 museums around the world, including the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, Bibliothèque nationale in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Art Gallery of Ontario. Burtynsky holds three honourary doctorates and is an Officer of the Order of Canada.

In spring 2009, the AGO and Merrell Publishers will co-publish Frank Gehry in Toronto: Transforming the Art Gallery of Ontario, which features photographs by Edward Burtynsky and essays by Robert Fulford, Larry Wayne Richards and Matthew Teitelbaum.
